I don't share Rod Liddle's low opinion of Dickens. True, Frau Grumpy has warned me off the intolerably sentimental Dombey and Son, but they're not all that bad. I must admit, however, that the great man probably never came up with anything quite like this, with which Rod has surely booked his place alongside Dorothy Parker in the dictionary of quotations:-
'Jerry [Hall] is about to bring her timber-clad acting talents to yet another production of The Vagina Monologues and one is tempted to remark that this is indeed about the only part of her which might have an interesting story to tell, were it able to speak for itself.'
Sorry, but we all have our guilty pleasures, don't we?
